Students are responsible for securing their own financial support. Self-funded students may be eligible to apply for a tuition fee waiver.
For international students, various scholarship opportunities are available, including the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship and other external fellowships.
The MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship is a highly competitive program that supports international students pursuing graduate studies in Japan. General information about studying in Japan and the MEXT scholarship program can be found on the Study in Japan website. There are two main application routes for the MEXT scholarship.
1. Embassy Recommendation Applicants apply through the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in their home country. The recruitment and initial screening process is typically conducted between April and May for enrollment in the following year. For detailed procedures and deadlines, please contact the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country.
2. University Recommendation Under this route, The University of Osaka recommends a limited number of candidates directly to MEXT.
